Elizabeth Virrick Park Community Center / MDPLS Branch Library

FGSS, Inc. designed this 16,000 sf multi-use community building, featuring a large gymnasium that provides an arena for basketball, volleyball, boxing, wrestling and other similar activities. The gymnasium can also be easily converted into an assembly hall with a stage at one end for theatrical and dance performances and movie / video showings. Other areas include a lounge / library space, a computer training room, a home economics / multi-purpose classroom, an arts & crafts classroom, and a child care room. Support facilities include men’s and women’s lockers / showers, a snack bar, administrative offices and a police substation. In addition to the Community Center, a 4,000 sf addition has been designed for the Miami-Dade Public Library System. Designed to blend seamlessly with the existing Community Center, the branch library addition will be completed in 2006. The Elizabeth Virrick Park Community Center was completed in the summer of 2002 at a construction cost of $2,400,000.
